Persian clover (Trifolium resupinatum L.), also known as twisted clover, is a valuable fodder plant. Originating from today's Iran and Afghanistan, Persian clover belongs to small-seed legume plants. It differs from the main cultivated species of this group (red clover, Michel's clover, alfalfa and hybrid) in both biological and functional features.
Persian clover is valued as a fodder plant because it contains a lot of protein and valuable nutrients, with a small amount of dry matter and a low content of crude fiber.
Advantages:
- Persian clover is a plant of medium height 50-70 cm,
- its root system is quite shallow and branched,
- has upright, branched plants with a high tendency to lodging,
- soft and hollow stems,
- is a valuable fodder plant, giving 2-4 swaths of green mass eagerly eaten by animals,
- grows back quickly, while the stems become woody very slowly,
- suitable for fertile and moist soils,
- in our conditions it is an annual plant.
