Oyster mushroom substrate
- Substrate for amateur oyster mushroom cultivation. Do you like mushrooms? Do you want to be sure about the quality of the product? You buy the substrate and after a few weeks you cut off the fresh product straight into the pan, for soup, salad, etc.
How to care for a bale?
It is best to place the bale in a cool place (optimal yield temperature: 12-18°C), with little access to light, but not completely dark. So in practice a garage or basement will be suitable.
Theoretically, the bale is already moistened and you don't need to do anything: you put it in this shed/garage and wait two weeks for the mushrooms to start growing
In practice, mushrooms like moisture and the buds can dry out slightly, so it is a good idea to moisten the holes in the foil from time to time.
How many mushrooms can you collect from this?
Quite a lot - one flush can weigh up to a kilogram. The mushrooms are of very good quality, nice and fleshy.
Oyster mushrooms mature at different rates.
Is the mycelium disposable?
No, it is not. Once it has produced a "harvest", you need to leave it alone for a while to rest. Then we water the bale thoroughly, so that it is moist again (we will have to tear off some of the protective foil) and put it back in its final fruiting place. It will start to sprout a new crop of mushrooms – you can repeat this process several times, but over time the mycelium will become weaker (which is natural).
