HOW DOES SELF THICKENING GRASS WORK?

In the case of ordinary grass seeds, the principle of operation is simple - one sown seed grows into one plant - a clump. Then it grows, the clump thickens, and that's the end of the process. This is simplified, because it should be remembered that not all grass seeds germinate. It is a matter of many factors, including: quality of grass seeds, weather conditions, proper care, watering. As a result, despite dense sowing, the appearance of the lawn may be far from expectations.

Unlike regular grasses, SELF thickening grass grows differently. From one grass seed sown, one plant grows - a clump. Then it grows, the clump thickens BUT this is not the end of the process. At the same time, a tuft of grass sends out rhizomes (runners) horizontally to the side, from which further small tufts of grass grow. This process can be compared to a constantly expanding natural grass network of shoots, from which new plants grow - clumps of grass. It will last until every free surface is sodded, and in the case of holes, damage or defects on the lawn, until regeneration itself takes place, i.e. filling the empty space with new grass. This is how, in short, the self-compaction and self-regeneration of the lawn takes place. This applies to the establishment of a lawn as well as to lawn renovation and regeneration. This type of grass (creeping ryegrass - RPR) has so far been used on professional football pitches or golf courses.

ADVANTAGES OF SELF THICKENING GRASS

It creates a compact, natural network of self-growing rhizomes from which new clumps of grass grow. At a later stage, each newly formed clump continues to shoot rhizomes to the side and subsequent clumps grow. This is how the self-compacting process takes place. Thanks to this, the grass quickly covers free surfaces and cavities, and as a result of intensive and lush growth, we get a dense lawn for years, both in the case of lawn establishment and lawn renovation.

High resistance and self-regeneration

Connected rhizomes form a dense network that firmly binds the turf together. In combination with the rapid growth and rooting of the grass, this ensures high resistance of the lawn to intensive trampling and use. What's more, breaking the rhizomes or damaging the clump stimulates the grass to spread and regenerate itself. This type of grass seed is used on the turf of professional football pitches or golf courses.

Long-lasting effect

The rapid and intensive growth of the grass causes the lawn to constantly rejuvenate, making it look fresh for years, not just one season. Low internodes (at a height of 2-3 cm) mean that the grass can be mowed lower than most popular species on the market. In the event of damage to the clump (drought, mowing), the free space on the lawn will be filled with a new clump of grass from rhizomes spreading to the sides (self-regeneration). It is also more resistant to freezing, thanks to which it will survive the winter better. These unique features contribute to a long-lasting effect - a dense lawn for years.

A natural weed barrier

Thanks to the rapid growth and the process of self-compaction by rhizomes, it creates a lawn with a dense, compact turf. In this way, it naturally reduces the occurrence of weeds or moss, which no longer have room for development. In addition to the aesthetic issue, less weeds and moss means less need to use special fertilizers or plant protection products and less work in lawn care.

Earlier results

Compared to most grasses available on the market, self-compacting grass seeds germinate at temperatures 2-4oC lower and emerge 

much faster - after 7 days (most grass seeds on average after 14 days). It can therefore be sown earlier and in less favorable weather conditions. Features such as fast sodding and at lower temperatures mean that we can enjoy the result in the form of a beautiful and well-kept lawn much earlier.
