Cabbage syphilis is an increasing threat in oilseed rape cultivation. The causes of this disease include unregulated soil reaction (lack of liming), short crop rotation, i.e. too frequent appearance of rape in it. The disease is caused by the protozoan Plasmodiophora brassicae. Symptoms are visible on the roots. Early infections lead to serious damage to the root system and, consequently, to the death of plants. Tidal spores hatch from the spores in the soil, infecting first the hair roots and then the root skin. There, millions of new spores appear in the characteristic root growths. The method of fighting the pathogen is combating self-seeding, liming and appropriate crop rotation. If we want to grow rape and the field is infected with syphilis, the only solution is
sowing varieties with high resistance to the most common breeds of cabbage syphilis.
