Red onion mix 0.5 kg
- Growing green onions is one of the oldest methods of onion production. In the cultivation of spring onions, onions are relatively the most tolerant of unfavorable climatic and soil conditions and this method can be successfully used throughout the country
Most often, spring onions are grown for an early bunch harvest, and also for harvesting with dry husk in summer or autumn. This method allows for about 4-6 weeks earlier harvesting of onions compared to sowing. Growing spring onions involves two stages. The purpose of cultivation in the first year is to obtain small bulbs called scallions which, after being planted in the second cultivation year, continue their vegetative development to reach commercial size. The spring onions can be produced on their own or purchased in specialized companies producing it using ecological methods. In all cases it should be free from disease and nematodes.
In the second year of cultivation, the spring onions is planted in the field in spring, as soon as possible, weather permitting. The spring onions can be planted by hand or with the use of special seeders for spring onions, preferably by a belt-row system, using the row spacing similar to onions from sowing. The distance between the bulbs in a row should be 5 - 8 cm. Fertilizing and preparing the field for green onions is similar to the cultivation of sowing. The amount of spring onions needed to plant 1 ha depends on its diameter and plant density and may vary from 300 to 2000 kg. Spring onions with a diameter of 11-15 mm need about 800-1200 kg / ha.
